Summer at last.....

A child’s skin is very sensitive; always apply sunscreen when they are going out doors and repeat as necessary throughout the day. A hat also helps to protect the top of the head, ears, back of the neck and face.

Never leave a child unattended around a swimming pool or any item with standing water in it. A child/person can drown in only one inch of water. Also never leave a child in the car. The temperature inside a car is much higher than outside. It is a matter of LIFE & DEATH.

Summer is a time of fun and sun;  Click on the more link for fun ideas and tasty treat recipe's to help make your child's and families summer just a bit more fun.

Summertime Fun

Summer is a time for picnics and popsicles. A fun time can be had at your favorite local park.  Pack a favorite family lunch grab a blanket some sunscreen and get outdoors. To help your child discover their imagination lay on your backs and find familiar shapes in the clouds. Encourage your child to find a favorite animal. Don’t have time to get out to the park a family picnic in the back yard can be great fun as well. For a different adventure try a night time picnic and look for shapes within the stars and/or play a game of flash light tag.

Beat the Heat

Summer time heat can really drain you when playing outside. For a tasty healthy treat pour your child’s favorite juice into ice cube trays. Cover the tray with plastic wrap and poke flat tooth picks through the wrap into the juice. Freeze and pop out for a homemade “popsicle”.

No Drip Popsicles.

1 Box of Jello any flavor (red ones do stain clothes)

1 Cup orange Juice (or another favorite)

1 Cup Water

Boil the water add Jello and stir unitl Jello is disolved.

Stir in fruit juice.

Pour into trays or small paper cups cover with plastic wrap and insert toothpicks or popscicle sticks, then freeze.

Option: smash up a favorite fruit and add it when stirring in the juice.

Another tasty treat: Using a blender pour your child’s favorite juice some cut up pieces of fruit,  plain nonfat yogurt and ice into the pitcher. Blend until “smooth”. Pour and enjoy. You can also put in some pieces of carrot for a fruit and vegetable blended “smoothie”. This drink can also be frozen and eaten later as a cup of “ice cream”.
